White Group Safety Regulations

These boats shall comply with the following regulations; but if class rules provide a higher standard then class rules apply.

(1) Buoyancy: Boats shall either be self-righting from 90 degrees or have enough reserve buoyancy to support the boat and crew for at least 30 minutes following a capsize. Boats shall be equipped with suitable means for bailing or pumping.

(2) Flares: Boats shall carry in a waterproof pack at least two red hand flares and two orange smoke flares.

(3) Fire Extinguisher: Boats carrying engine or cooking fuel shall carry a fire extinguisher and a stout bucket of 9 litres min. capacity attached to a lanyard.

(4)    Personal flotation devices (PFDs): At all times when racing, each person on board shall wear an adequate PFD at least sufficient to comply with RRS 40. PFDs shall be clearly visible to other boats.  The RC will not display Flag "Y". This changes RRS 40 and Race Signals.

(5) Man Overboard: Boats shall carry a rescue quoit or throw bag with at least 15m of floating line and at least one lifebuoy or lifesling.

(6) First Aid: Boats shall carry a waterproof first aid pack with instructions.

(7) Anchor: Boats shall carry a suitable anchor and sufficient warp to hold the boat in 15m depth of water in the expected racing conditions.

(8) Compass: Boats shall carry a suitable compass - handheld acceptable.

(9) Equipment: All equipment, fittings and engines shall be securely fastened.
